The Transformation of Te Kura o Motueka: The Community Garden, Hāngi Pit and Pātaka Kai

One of the first areas completed with Te Puna Taiao at Allandale School / Te Kura o Motueka was the Community Garden and Pātaka Kai.

This bare green space was originally destined for more car parking. We were able to convince the Ministry of Education that it would be far better used as a place for the school and community to grow kai together, teaching our tamariki the art of growing, harvesting, eating and sharing healthy kai.

A big thanks to the EarthArt design team of Brett and Rangitahi and the EarthArt builders: Ryan, Joe and Johnny. Ka mau te wehi koutou!

A huge thanks too to talented carvers Lawrence Hohua and Danny McRoberts for their beautiful work.

Thanks as always to Claire House photography for assistance with recording the transformation.
